Gibault Philosophy of Catholic Education

The fundamental task of Gibault Catholic High school is to express the faith of Jesus in an academic environment permeated with the Gospel spirit of love and freedom.

Recognizing that parents are the first teachers of the faith, Gibault accepts responsibility for continuing to teach the fundamental tenets of the Catholic Church. We also strive to build on student's experience in their local parishes by providing them daily contact with a caring, Christian community.

Mission of the Church

Mindful that the mission of the Church is to offer rather than impose its teachings, Gibault respects the religious freedom and personal conscience of individual students and their families. Gibault Catholic High School accepts the responsibility to provide educational opportunities in and beyond the classroom, offering a variety of learning situations to develop students in spiritual, physical, social, creative and intellectual ways so that well-integrated young adults are formed.

At Gibault, in all facets of education, the inspiration of Jesus must be translated from the ideal into the real. Christian values, knowledge and faith must lead to service. Responsive to the needs of both the immediate community as well as the global community, Gibault encourages an active faith that challenges the students to work for peace, justice, and freedom for all people in all countries.

A Partnership Based on Faith

Close cooperation with the families of Gibault students is not a question of convenience, but a partnership based on faith. To determine whether the philosophy and goals of Gibault Catholic High School are being lived, they are periodically evaluated and revised. This evaluation process is the shared responsibility of members of the Gibault community and will be carried out faithfully.

Gibault Catholic High School provides an environment which fosters spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional and social growth. We provide a Christian community atmosphere for students, parents, faculty, alumni and the communities we serve. We strive to develop intellectual curiosity and to teach an appreciation of the diversities of people.

Community Service Projects

Community service projects are integral to our school life. The self worth of the people we serve is very important to our school community since we value their dignity as children of God. At Gibault we attempt to instill a pursuit for lifelong learning, the development of leadership qualities and the desire to be active in our Catholic faith.

Retreat Programs

All students must participate in the retreat program each year. The retreat program is designed so that students grow in their relationship with God as they advance through their high school years.

Freshmen  have a day of recollection early in their school year at the YMCA camp in Belleville. Sophomores take their retreat at the Shrine in Belleville.

The Juniors make a two-day retreat at the Marianist Retreat & Conference Center in Eureka, Missouri. The retreat is overnight. Our Seniors also make an over-night retreat, at the King's House in Belleville

Catholic Christian Community

As a Catholic Christian community we best renew our identity in our commitment to the Lord through the celebration of the Eucharist. An all-school celebration, therefore, is held each month. In addition, weekday liturgies in the chapel are, scheduled periodically. Other options, such as a class liturgy, are arranged throughout the school year.
