The Math Team competed in the ICTM state contest on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

Gibault Math Team Takes 1^st 
at ICTM Regional Competition

 The Gibault Math Team came home with 1^st place honors at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Regional Math Contest held on Saturday, February 23 at SIU Edwardsville. Groups among our team which also garnered 1^st place honors were: Freshmen-Sophomore Two Person Team of Benjamin Sun and Ben Constantine; Junior-Senior 2 Person Team of Caroline Riebeling and Anna Fiore; Calculator Team of Bobby Douglas, Mike Hoffman, Ben Sun, Ben Constantine, and Mark Braun; Junior-Senior 8 Person Team of Caroline Riebeling, Kate Ramlose, Bobby Douglas, Bartosz Cielinski, Jenny Lesko, Spencer Harrison, Anna Fiore, and Hyun Jun Choi; Algebra II Team of Mike Hoffman, Hyun Jun Choi, Anna Fiore, Spencer Harrison, and Jenny Lesko; and Pre-Calculus Team of Bartosz Cielinski, Bobby Douglas, Kate Ramlose, and Caroline Riebeling. Individuals which brought home 1^st place honors were Mark Braun in Algebra I, Benjamin Sun in Geometry, Hyun Jun Choi in Algebra II, and Caroline Riebeling in Pre-Calculus. Other team members and groups who place were Mike Hoffman 2^nd in Algebra II, Anna Fiore and Spencer Harrison 3^rd in Algebra 2, Kate Ramlose and Bobby Douglas 2^nd in Pre-Calculus, and Caroline Riebeling and Anna Fiore 2^nd in Junior-Senior 2 Person Team.

 By taking 1^st place in the Regional the entire team qualifies for the State Contest on Saturday, April 26 at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

Math Team Begins Another Season

Every year, the Math Team participates in several math contests sponsored by various organization and universities: Southwest Math Conference contests at SWIC, Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Regional and State competitions at SIU Edwardsville and University of Illinois, and the SIU Carbondale Math Field Day.

These competitions are an opportunity for our students to meet mathletes from other schools and to visit the campuses of several universities. There are also sometimes opportunities to meet with professors and other members of the Math faculty. Taking these tests is good preparation for taking standardized tests in general, as they are often difficult and timed.

Gibault's Math Team moderator this year is Mr. Guthrie.

In the spring of the year, Gibault hosts its own Math Competition for middle school students from area schools, both parochial and public.
