Seniors: If you attended Post Prom and did not win a prize, we have 2 small Post Prom t-shirts and 4 Firestone gift certificates (for a free lube, oil and filter). If you are interested in winning one of these items, put your name in the bowl in the front office and we'll have a drawing at the end of school tomorrow.

The bowling team that Mrs. Corzine registered for the summer league will begin play at noon on June 4th. If you will be out of town this summer, you may bowl early for that particular week of bowling. Diane Corzine.

Monday, May 12

Attention all seniors: All of you are invited and strongly encouraged to participate in the "senior reflection song" at the graduation ceremony. Rehearsals are at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week in the Band Room.

A reminder to the golf team--our golf outing has been moved to Thursday after school.

Girls' Track Sectional: 22 schools participated. 
Stephanie Berg ran her best 400 meter dash of the season breaking her old record with a time of 1:08. 
Jolene Steibel made it to the finals in the 100 meter dash.
Melisaa Grimm, just coming back from pulling a quad at the beginning of the season, ran very well. 
Kaitlyn Fahy ran the 100 meter dash and the 4x200 relay for the first time of the season. She did a wonderful job. 
          Coach Berg wants to thank all the girls on the track team this 2008 season. You all had a wonderful year, breaking 3 school records and working together as one. You all made it an enjoyable and successful season.

Today, freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be voting on the treasurer. Our
2 candidates are Kyle Prader and Lana Rottler. Each will give a short

On Friday, May 9, Field Day will end at 1:30. Buses will run on their regular schedules in the morning. Gibault buses will pick up at 1:45 that afternoon. Waterloo buses will run on a regular afternoon schedule.

Monday, May 5   

Starting today, there will be boxes in your homeroom with a list of supplies that soldiers overseas need. There will be a competition between homerooms and the homeroom that brings in the most will receive McDonald's breakfast next Tuesday.

Seniors Attending SWIC: Registration for classes will be held here May 6th. Sign up outside of guidance.

If any student who wants books returned to SLU tomorrow, place them in the box in Sr. Elaine's room by 2:00 today.

We're considering having the Scholastic Bowl party next week Wednesday. All members should see Sr. Elaine today, either to confirm that you are coming or to say what you can bring. Please leave a note in Rm. 207 if you cannot see the coach in person. Remember: Freshman and Senior players are guests; Sophomores and Juniors provide the refreshments. The party is right after school at Sr. Elaine's house; it lasts until 5:00.

Announcement for Seniors!     

The Senior Baccalaureate Mass is scheduled for May 1, 2008 at 9:30am at 
St. Peter's Roman Catholic Cathedral in Belleville. The administration at Gibault decided to not have classes on this day so that faculty and staff can join the seniors and their families at this Eucharistic Celebration. Attending the Baccalaureate Mass on May 1, 2008 is a requirement for graduation, please turn in your permission slips to Mrs. Ramlose this week. Seniors will need to be at Gibault by 7:50am because they will be riding buses from Gibault to the Cathedral.

The Senior Potluck will be held at Gibault immediately after the Baccalaureate Mass. Please RSVP as soon as possible so that the Mother's Club can place the meat order for the day.

Seniors - Please turn in your completed Graduation Program Information Sheet to Mrs. Ramlose ASAP so that your information can be included in the graduation program.

STUDENT COUNCIL: meeting Friday at 7:30 in room 211; Executive board nomination packets re due Friday, May 2nd.

BENEFIT: MAY 17th--There will be a 5k walk/run in Red Bud to benefit the Loving Touch Pregnancy Center. Registration forms are available in the office. Those who register by Friday will receive a t-shirt. If you live in or near Red Bud, please consider helping this worthy cause. This benefit is organized by a young man trying to earn his Eagle Scout standing.

Girl's Soccer: Last evening the JV team beat Nerinx Hall 1-0 with Tara Kennedy scoring. Mary Kate Brumit and Alycia Schreder shared the shutout in goal. Alexis Brown had an excellent game in defense.

You may purchase tickets for the Awards Night in the office this week. Tickets are $10. Please buy them by Friday, May 2nd.

Monday, April 28

Baseball. Reminder to get your tickets for Friday's baseball game at GCS from Coach Skaer or any baseball player.

You may purchase tickets for the Awards Night in the office this week. Tickets are $10. Please bring them by Friday, May 2nd.

Supervised Study notices are being passed out in homeroom today. This new session starts today.

The Gibault Math Team ventured to the University of Illinois to participate in the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics State Contest on Saturday. There were over 120 schools in attendance with 32 schools in our division. Our Algebra 2 Team made up of Hyun Jun Choir, Anna Fiore, Jenny Lesko, Mike Hoffman and Spencer Harrison placed 10th, out Calculator Team of Mark Braun, Ben Sun, Mike Hoffman, and Bobby Douglas placed 9th and our Freshman-Sophomore Two-person team of Mark Braun and Ben Sun were 2nd. In the individual competition Ben Sun was 2nd overall in Geometry. Rounding out the team for the day were Caroline Riebeling and Kate Ramlose. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Thursday, April 24  

Softball: The team defeated Steeleville 4-3. Lana Rottler and Lexie Purcell contributed with good defense and both with an RBI.

Baseball: Last night the baseball team won 5-1 over Steeleville. Derek Briesacher pitched very effectively giving up only an unearned run in 6 innings. Offensively Mike Kreher and Ty Schutt each had 2 hits. Brian Lupa hit a homerun while John Thomas nailed 2 homeruns.

Reminder: Buy your tickets for the game at GCS stadium next Friday from Coach Skaer or any baseball player.

Girl's Soccer: On Tuesday evening, the varsity lost to Granite City 7-0. On Wednesday evening the varsity lost to Alton Marquette 6-1 with Meg Nordike scoring. The JV team tied Alton Marquette JV 0-0 with Mary Kate Brumit playing an excellent game in goal.

Teachers-reminder that today is jeans day--please collect $1 and put envelopes in Mrs. Asbury's mailbox.

Reminder: ALL NHS Seniors must stop by Mrs. Fritz's classroom to verify service hours. Once service hours are completed you will be given your NHS stole. Those students who bought a stole-they are in-the cost is $23.25. Pay Mrs. Fritz.

Chorus members have until the end of the day to sign up for the Baccalaureate Mass. Sign up is in the band room.

Track:  FOUR school records were broken @ yesterday's track meet.
Boys 4X100 Relay was 50.01 now 49.87.
Boys 4X200 Relay was 1:45.50 now 1:42.88 both relays were run by: Jon Wolf, Corey Hogrefe, Alex Crayne & Alex Mann.
Girls 4X100 Relay was 56.40 now 55.83-- Brooke Hogrefe, Stephanie Berg,
Jolene Steibel & Rachel Timmermann.
Boys 3200 Meter Run--Connor Fahy broke his own record was 12:50 now 12:45.31.
1st place: Nicki Birkner tied her own school record jumping 5' .
Brooke Hogrefe in 100 Meter Dash with a tie of 13.45 .
3rd place: Brooke Hogrefe in long jump with a jump of 15'2 1/2".
4th place: Girls 4X100 Meter Relay-see above.
Girls 4X200 Meter Relay with a time of 2:01.97. Brooke Hogrefe, Stephanie

Girls team tied with Steeleville for fourth place; Boys team took 6th place.
This is the best Gibault has done at the Bi-County Meet since track was
re-instated.

Did you know that 1 person can generate 4 1/2 pounds of waster per day? Some of this can be recycled. Celebrate Earth Week and recycle! Also, remember to bring in 1 dollar tomorrow for a jeans/gym short day in honor of Earth Week.

Seniors applying to Waterloo Optimist, application must be turned into Mrs. Mackin by 8:00 a.m. Thursday since we will not be in school on Friday.

Baseball. The team lost 4-1 last night to Freeburg. John Thomas was very good on the mound. Mike Kreher and Chris Kuester had hits for the Hawks.

Any freshman religion student who turns in corrections by 3:00 tomorrow will have those points added to your midquarter grade. Sr. Elaine will return library books to St. Louis University this Wednesday evening, in addition to the regular weekend return.

Invitations for the Awards Banquet are being given out in homeroom today. Students who made 1st or 2nd honors in the first three quarters or who will be receiving a special award in academics, extracurricular activities, service, or sports will be given an invitation. If you have any questions about whether you should have gotten an invitation, please see Mrs. Tepen.

Math Team members going to U of I this weekend for the State Math Contest need to stop by Mr. Guthrie's room and pick up a permission slip.

Stage crew will work today, tomorrow, and Thursday this week. Cast members, if you left anything back stage you need to pick it up, put it away, or throw it away. That means costumes should be hung and props should be put on the shelves on the mezzanine. This is your job not the crews. If you wore it or used it then be responsible and put it away. Mr. Guthrie

Monday, April 21 

Faculty and Staff Bowling Tournament:  The 1st place team of Bill Guthrie, Terri Wilson, Julie Lesko & Dave Ragowski and the 4th place team of Jim Montgomery, Pat Hurst, Karen Asbury & Janet Thomas were awarded the privilege of "dressing down" the week of 4/21.

Girls' Soccer: Over the weekend the Varsity lost three games in the Springfield Sacred Heart Griffen Tournament. We lost to Peoria Richwoods 8-2 with Jackie Wirth and Meg Nordike scoring. We lost to Quincy Notre dame 4-1 with Tara Kennedy scoring. Also we lost to Peoria Notre Dame 7-0.

SCOPE. This week is Earth Week! SCOPE is celebrating by sponsoring a gym shorts/jeans day on Thursday. Also, SCOPE scholarship forms are available in the Biology room and need to be turned in by April 28th.

Again this year the baseball Hawks are playing at Grizzly Stadium! We play the Columbia Eagles on Friday, May 2. The varsity game will begin around 6:30. Tickets are $4 apiece. See Coach Skaer for tickets.

Thursday, April 17  

Last night the JV baseball team beat Okawville 6-3. Jake Cooper pitched 5 shutout innings earning the win. AJ Skaer ad Cory Lane had 2 hits each. Brendan Fournie, Jake Cooper, Cole Blechle, August Lock and Spencer Stumpf each had a hit.

Algebra 1 students who miss class today for the Elizabethan fair need to stop by Mrs. Wilson's room for their homework assignment. 

SCOPE scholarship applications are available in the Biology room. Please see Mrs. Asbury for details.

Students who checked books out of Pius XII Library on March 27--these are due today. You can renew them online, using the SLU website or by phone. If you wish to have your books returned this weekend, there will be a box in Sr. Elaine's Room. She will take them to SLU if they are in the box by the end of school today.

Track results from Chester Meet: The team is still suffering injuries and the effects were felt yesterday. The girls team managed a few points:

Student Council meeting Thursday at 7:30 a.m. 

Student Council Executive Board elections are coming up. Anyone who has previously been a member of STUCO can run for office. See Sev for your nomination packet. Elections are May 6th.

Tuesday, April 15 

Thanks to all those who participated in yesterday's WYSE state finals at the University of Illinois. Over thirty schools and 450 students participated in the contest with our Ben Sun placing 5th in Math and 4th in Physics. Congratulations, Ben.

Math Team Individual results of the Carbondale Math Field Day came in the mail yesterday. With 735 students in attendance, Ben Sun took 1st for the Sophomore division with Hyun Jun Choi bringing home an honorable mention for the Juniors. Math Team members going to the State competition on April 26 should stop by Mr. Guthrie's room and pick up copies of last years tests and a permission slip.

The baseball team lost a well fought game last night to Columbia. Michael Kreher got the loss on the mound. Michael also had three hits including his 1st career homerun and a double. Ty had three hits as well.

Anatomy Students--Please remember to bring your permission slips tomorrow for the field trip. Several students need to turn in their SLU permission slips.

Reminder: If you plan to attend Prom, you need to purchase your ticket by 10:00 next Friday morning. Be sure to have your detentions served, fees paid and service hours completed by then in order to buy a Prom ticket.

If you are planning to work the clean-up day, tomorrow, please plan to dress warm. It will be cold! If you have not signed up for the clean-up day there is still time. The sign up is in the office.

Stage Crew will work tomorrow morning from 9 to 12 and Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4. Next week is dress rehearsal week and all crew members need to be here for all rehearsals and performances.

Thursday, April 10   

Softball.  The team defeated Valmeyer yesterday. Major contributions to the victory were from Brittany Davis, Mary Bernal and Macy Wierschem.

Baseball.  The team won 4-2 over Waterloo last night. Michael Kreher threw a complete game on the mound. Brian Lupa had two hits; RBIs came from Derek Briesacher, Ty Schutt and Brendan Fournie.

All seniors need to attend God Mod today to receive your graduation gown and  graduation information.

Seniors are reminded that Corey Lawrence from Jostens will be here tomorrow from 7:15 to 7:50 to pass out graduation orders. If you owe money, remember to bring in a check made out to Jostens for that amount.

GIRLS SOCCER: JV tied St. Pius with Jolene Steibel scoring. 

LATE START TOMORROW for students.

SOFTBALL: we defeated Red Bud 3-2 yesterday. Ann Tepen led the way with a triple, single, run scored and an RBI. Kelsey Barbeau also went 2 for 3. Good job ladies!

SENIORS: Jostens will be here Friday morning (April 11th) from 7:15-7:50 to had out graduation announcements. If there is still money due, a notice was given to the student in homeroom. ALSO: anyone who still needs to have their ring resized should bring it in Friday morning.

Monday, April 7

Baseball. The team finished third in the county tournament this weekend. We lost the first game 2-1 in 8 innings to Waterloo, wasting a GREAT pitching performance by John Thomas. We beat Valmeyer 11-6 in the next game. Derek Briesacher got the win the second game. Offensively, Sanders, Kaiser, and upa all had multi-hits.

Stage Crew will work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3 to 5 this week. We will probably need to work one day this weekend too, to hang lights and run cords, so start thinking about which day will work better.

WYSE Team members don't forget to return your permission slips for next Monday's State competition. Make sure you read what time we are leaving before you turn them in.

Softball.  The team was defeated by Belleville East 2-0. Ann Tepen pitched a very strong game.

Baseball.  The Team beat Red Bud last night 5-1. Brian Lupa pitched wonderfully allowing only 5 hits. Offensively, Briesacher and Cepicky each had 2 hits and George had 2 RBIs.

Congratulations to Brittany Kleinschmidt. She won the Post-Prom T-shirt Design.

Tomorrow is Mr. Rogers Day: For $1 you can wear jeans with a sweater--you must wear a sweater if you want to wear jeans.

**Watch for the Marketing 2 Class on Channel 5 tomorrow morning, between 6-7 a.m. The students will be talking about setting the longest glow stick record (Saturday, April 5, 7-9 p.m.) with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.**

Congratulations to Austin Nieman and Michael Hoffman on being Honorable Mention on the News Democrat All-Area team. Michael set the school record for blocked shots in a season as well as leading the area in blocked shots and rebounds.

Monday, March 31

Baseball. On Saturday, the baseball team lost to CBC 6-1. John Thomas and Cory Lane pitched well. The only hits came from Brendan Fournie and freshman Corey Sanders in his first varsity at bat.

Girls' Soccer. On Saturday, the varsity lost to a very good Chatham Glenwood 3-0 with Alycia Schreder, Danielle Cooper and Jackie Wirth playing very well. The JV team lost 2-0.

SENIOR COUNTDOWN: Day 2--tomorrow is jeans days. Wear a Gibault uniform shirt with appropriate jeans or jean shorts.

Welcome Back Prayer Service for Seniors.  It is tomorrow, at 2:00 in the gym.  All parents and guests are invited to attend.

The baseball team won last night over Chester 8-5. Brian Lupa got the win and Ty Schutt earned the save. Offensive leaders were Andrew Kaiser (3-4), Ty Schutt (2-3), Derek Briesacher (2-3) and Brendan Fournie (2 RBIs).

Girl's Soccer: Last evening the varsity lost to Althoff 8-0 and the JV team lost 4-0. Coach Corsi

Gibault's Track Team is off to a good start. The athletes placed in many events. Second Places: Boys 4x200 Relay-Jon Wolf, Alex Crayne, Will Gregorich & Cory Hogrefe-1:48.4. Will Gregorich in the 110 High Hurdles with a time of 19.6 breaking his record of last year 19.77. Alex Crayne in the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 5:51.6. Girl's Soccer: On Thursday, the varsity lost to Notre Dame Academy 5-2 with Jackie Wirth scoring both of our goals. On Saturday, the varsity lost to Waterloo 2-0. The girls JV soccer team lost to the Highland JV team on Friday in penalty kicks. Carolyn McManus and Jolene Steibel scored. On Saturday, the JV team defeated the Anna Jonesboro varsity 5-0 with Alexis Brown and Mary Kate Brumit scoring a goal apiece and Tara Kennedy scoring three goals. Also on Saturday, the JV team lost in overtime to the Breese Central varsity team 3-2 with Jolene Steibel and Tara Kennedy scoring. Coach Corsi

Congratulations to the baseball team for winning both games on Saturday, beating Roxanna 6-1 and Jerseyville 11-9. Brian Lupa, Derek Briesacher and John Thomas all pitched very well. Junior High Math Contest:  Those students who have signed up to work at the Gibault Jr. High Math Contest tomorrow morning, please be here by 8:45. Go to the library to find out your assigned duties.

Today is National Pi Day (3/14). There will be a brief celebration at 1:59. Stop by Mr. Guthrie's room and see the first 120,00 decimal places of pi.

ART: The judges of the Sister Cities Art Contest announced the winners last night at their monthly meeting. The competition included Valmeyer, Waterloo, and Gibault. Five places were awarded and Gibault won ALL 5 PLACES!

WYSE TEAM.  The Gibault WYSE team took first place at the Sectional competition yesterday at McKendree. We advanced to STATE which is Monday, April 14th,

SPRING ATHLETES.  All athletes playing a spring sport must have their $50 sports fee paid before their first game or track meet.

AUSTRALIA TRIP.  Those interested in the summer 2009 trip to Australia, there is an informational meeting in the Computer Lab tomorrow night at 6 pm.

SCHOLASTIC BOWL: The Varsity Scholastic Bowl Juniors played the semi-final round of Regionals yesterday. Unfortunately, Marissa defeated the Hawks and advanced to the finals.

Thanks to Anne Tepen for leading the team as captain and to the following players: Mary Kate Bernal, Travis Constantine, Nick Dames, Anna Fiore, Erinne Haberl and Sam Naumann. Next Tuesday, March 11, there will be a Varsity Meeting in room 207 immediately after school to plan strategy for next season. We will meet for approximately half an hour.
